First Gastro Hackathon

Digital solutions for the catering industry.

The search for creative ideas for everyday work in the foodservice industry was the focus of the first Gastro Hackathon in Salzburg. SODA GROUP supported the event with coaching and industry knowledge.

Salzburg– Develop against the clock: The participants of the first Gastro Hackathon had only 24 hours to develop meaningful digital solutions for typical problems and challenges of the gastronomy.
21 teams of start-ups, students, developers and entrepreneurs presented their ideas and conceptual approaches for the industry at the end of the competition organised by MoonVision/Dishtracker as part of the “Everything for the Guest” event. The jury of experts named a Viennese start-up as the winner, whose chatbot requests data from guests in order to create an individual offer in real time.
Another team presented a further development of the Dishtracker food recognition system: A camera in the ceiling lamp of the restaurant table informs the service staff whether guests have finished their meal and can be cleared, or whether something is still missing from the table.
One of the participating teams also took on the challenge of reliably informing guests about allergens: a self-learning app is supposed to provide information about the allergens contained in ingredients and dishes with the help of a simple smartphone photo of the menu.
SODA GROUP accompanied the teams in their work and provided assistance with specific industry issues.
A second edition of the successful event is to be planned.
